What is anger and what causes it?

Find the answers by attending the Center for Children's Services Anger Management Groups for youth.

 

Who can join the group?

The Anger Management Group is open to boys and girls ages 8 through 16 years.  Groups are divided according to age.

 

Why join the Anger Management Group?

Everybody gets angry. It’s a normal human emotion. When you are angry, you are angry, and you are entitled to your emotions.
How you act when you are angry is your CHOICE. Some people act out and hurt others. Some direct their anger inward and hurt themselves.
You can learn how to cope with your anger in an appropriate way in which you don’t hurt others or yourself.
You can learn these coping methods in the Anger Management Group.

 

What topics will the group address?

Common inappropriate methods of coping with anger including:

  • Physical Abuse - hurting the one that you are angry at

  • Verbal Abuse - calling the person names or threatening them

  • Emotional Abuse - hurting the person's feelings or making them feel guilty

 

Ways of coping with anger:

  • Own Up to Your Anger
  • Cool Off/Calm Down
  • Stop and Think/Sort Things Out
  • Say How You Feel
  • Try to Solve the Problem
  • Accept What You Cannot Change

 

How long is the group?

Each group lasts 50 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending upon the age of the participants and continues for 10 to 12 weeks.
