The professionally trained staff at the Early Learning Center is eager to serve your family by assisting you with your childcare needs.

Our hours of operation are: 6:30 am through 6:00 pm Monday-Friday.

Our philosophy is based upon the principles of Reggio Emilia and the Project Approach, which includes:

  • An optimistic image of the child (children are competent verses needy, children have the ability to grow and develop a sense of curiosity), Instead of directing activities, educators and teachers present possibilities and offer support
  • Collaboration between teachers and between teachers and parents is essential to the well-being of the children and success of the program
  • The children experience and the adults facilitate interactions, observe and document.
  • We provide experiences and activities that promote growth and development in all areas: cognitively, socially, emotionally, physically, and creatively.
  • Breakfast and lunch are provided as well as nutritious snacks.

Nursery Care (6 weeks-15 months)

The Center for Children's Services’ nursery offers care for infants ages 6 weeks-15 months of age. We provide a loving and nurturing environment which enhances growth and development. Our nursery staff receive training not only in caring for children’s physical needs, but also in providing comfort and reassurance to children of this tender age.

In light of the unique needs of infants, we try to adhere as closely as possible to the child’s pre-established feeding and napping schedule. The Center provides formula, baby food and table food. Parents choosing to provide their own formula may do so.

M.A.G.I.C. (Mixed Age Grouping Incorporating Continuity) (12 months-3 years)

The Early Learning Center has adopted a model of care that incorporates mixed age grouping and continuity of care. Children ages 12 months through 3 years of age are combined in a classroom for that entire period of time. As a result, children are with one primary care giver for a number of years, and able to bond and form closer relationships over the course of time. In addition, we recognize that younger children learn from their peers and older children are able to refine their skills as they patiently guide their younger friends. Children begin to realize that we are all different and have various strengths and weaknesses, and they come to appreciate one another.

Pre-School (3 years-5 years)

Our pre-school children also benefit from the concept of mixed age grouping and continuity of care. Children ages 3-5 are combined in our pre-school classes where they have the opportunity to learn from their play as well as participate in organized activities. Our curriculum addresses the Illinois Early Learning Standards, which focuses on the areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, fine arts, physical development and health, social and emotional development, and foreign languages. Frequent field trips are planned expanding children’s learning beyond the four walls of a classroom.

Headstart Partnership (3 years-5 years)

The Early Learning Center in partnership with East Central Illinois Community Action offers a class for children who meet Headstart criteria.

Our unique program provides care before and after traditional Headstart hours and meets year round.

Prospective families must meet subsidy qualifications and are responsible for the co-pay.
